The Project will develop a structured, computer-based tool for landmine identification, which will make the work of humanitarian and military demining services significantly more secure and efficient.
This innovative product, a combined software/hardware solution, will be developed in close cooperation by the University of Applied Sciences Wildau and Computer Center Strausberg Ltd.
The innovative tool will give demining personnel working on the ground a robust handheld minicomputer (PDA) provided with the necessary software. It allows fast and reliable landmine identification with menu-guided data entry and data reading.
Landmine data are made available and updated by data links between PDA, FieldServer and MasterServer using state-of-the-art technology.
The software development follows modular steps, all programming and layout work aiming at an unambiguous identification of a given type of landmine. This is the prerequisite for defining the logistics of demining activities, structured updating of landmine databanks, and the computer-based processing of these data.
One important feature is the recording of landmine locations using D-GPS which enables determination of mine emplacement patterns. |
